The sound system hire side of Neath Music grew from a very small seed. Many years ago a mate of ours, Mal Pope, decided to take his band, The Jacks, on the road as function band and asked whether we’d be able to provide the PA requirements. We cobbled together whatever used gear we had in the shop and got ourselves a functional system based mainly around Peavey equipment. Peavey gear is frowned upon by the ‘Pro-audio’ folk but the truth is that we did a LOT of high profile shows with that system and gathered a reputation for achieving a great sound pretty much everywhere. Coincidentally, many years later in 2011, we worked at a club called ‘Seen’ in Darlington where there was a Peavey DHT system; it was possibly the best sound we’d had for the whole tour!
We have, however moved onwards and upwards in recent years and now we used KV2 sound equipment exclusively. We firmly believe that it’s quite simply the best sounding equipment on the market. We carry three levels of KV2; the ‘EX’ system, which is good for around 500 seats, the ES system – 1200 seats, and the big VHD which will do 5000-seat venues. We use Allen & Heath iLive/T digital mixing systems and Logic System LM15 monitor cabs.
We’re big on technology and you’ll frequently find us mixing monitors wirelessly on a MacBook and even mixing front-of-house on an iPad.
Our clients are many and varied; Welsh stars such as Peter Karrie, Mal Pope, Mike Doyle and Bonnie Tyler are regulars. We’ve worked many times with bands such as Skin, The Storys, The Blockheads, the original Whitesnake, and of course our electronic mates, Friends Electric. We once mic’d up a ‘duck herder’, someone’s feet, and we also did the Japanese Taiko Drummers.
